Councilmember Pine and the Honolulu City Council honored Captain David Brian Osgood, United States Navy, yesterday. Capt. Osgood assumed command of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY) and Intermediate Maintenance Facility in June 2010 to become the 45th Commander of the largest industrial employer in the State of Hawai‘i.

PHNSY is the largest ship repair facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East, and is in charge of 5,000 civilian and military personnel, oversees approximately 800 private sector maritime repair resources, and is responsible for lifecycle maintenance and modernization of U.S. Pacific Fleet nuclear submarines and surface ships, including emergent response within the Pacific region. Over 400 ‘Ewa Beach residents are employed by the shipyard.

Capt. Osgood’s passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education within the State of Hawai‘i has resulted in establishing a vital link for apprenticeship opportunities with the shipyard and our community. Mahalo to Capt. Osgood for his service to Hawai‘i and our nation.
