We would like to congratulate Honolulu Police Maj. Susan Ballard on being selected to serve as the 11th police Chief, and first female leader, of our Honolulu Police Department. This is a tremendous accomplishment for our women in law enforcement, and a testament to Maj. Ballard’s record since she started on the force in 1985. As a member of the Hawaii Women’s Legislative Caucus, I am so happy and proud to be a leader in a City that selected their first female police Chief. This historic moment could not come at a better time for our City. We have so many public safety issues that we are working hard to solve and our police department needs a new era and who better to bring that to the community than a dedicated officer who has been on the job for more than three decades. We wish her and the new leadership team nothing but the best. I look forward to working with Chief Ballard to support her efforts to ensure that Oahu is a safe place for our families and visitors
