Family Programs Hawai`i, a non-profit, child welfare organization seeks part-time Youth Care Workers for our Receiving Home and assessment center in Ma’ili — Wai`anae. These are grade 3, part-time, unbenefited positions.
Responsibilities include supervision of children and youth in all aspects of their daily routine including behavior management, meal preparation, laundry, household chores, homework, cultural events and offsite activities. Also requires case documentation, facility maintenance and transportation. CANDIDATES MUST BE AVAILABLE 24/7 AND COULD BE CALLED TO WORK WEEKDAYS, WEEKENDS, AND/OR NIGHTS. CANDIDATES ARE REQUIRED TO WORK AT LEAST TWO SHIFTS PER MONTH.
Minimum qualifications including but not limited to: two years college education or equivalent experience; child supervision experience; ability to deal with high stress and emotional situations; computer competency; knowledge of Leeward coast and Hawaiian values; valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, clean driving abstract and insurance; successful child protective services background checks and medical clearances.
Preferred qualifications, including but not limited to: an interest in child welfare, non-profit experience; ability to work independently and as a member of a team, ability to maintain good working relationships with clients and coworkers; emotional maturity and ability to be supportive to all types of people; a highly developed service orientation and sensitivity toward people of diverse cultures, socio-economic backgrounds and lifestyles; and the ability to maintain positive working relationships with children, co-workers and the community. Desirable, proactive team players will bring strong initiative, self-direction, and the ability to deal with growth and change.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions, including but not limited to: duties require the employee to be absent of any physical limitation which would impair effective performance in the residential environment with children providing 24-hour care; possess strength and mobility to work directly with children in a residential environment providing 24-hour care; duties require the employee to handle the physical demands of the work including lifting/moving facility supplies, lifting children, working on computer for a long period of time, bending, stooping; and aggressive behavior management techniques.
