Among the many questions and comments received at the HART Art-in-Transit pre-submittal workshop were requests from several members of the standing-room-only audience to extend the deadline for applications.
In response, the deadline for professional artists to submit their qualifications for the Honolulu rail transit art program has been extended an additional week. The new deadline requires artists to submit their qualifications by 7:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard time on June 27.
“We want to be responsive to feedback and to encourage as many submissions as possible. The program is an excellent opportunity for artists to showcase their talent through artwork that reflects the history and character of the communities where our stations are located,” said HART CEO/Executive Director Dan Grabauskas.
Professional artists or artist teams are being asked to submit their qualifications and demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of Hawaii’s history, culture and traditions. Station artwork opportunities will range from paving and floor designs to wall murals, grille work and architectural fencing, to glass work and integrated sculptural elements.
