History was made on June 3rd in Rio de Janeiro where not one, but two, Hawaii boys both from Waianae, defeated big names in the UFC world. Yancy Medeiros defeated Erick Silva in the 2nd round by TKO. In the main event of the night, Max “Blessed” Holloway defeated Jose Aldo and became the new UFC Featherweight Champion after a stunning win with a four-hit combo that led to another TKO victory of the night.
On Monday at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, hundreds of family, friends and fans gathered to welcome the fighters with open arms and “chee-hoos”. “I can’t put it into words. I can’t explain it,” said Holloway. “Winning a belt is cool, but coming home to this… This belt is whatever compared to this kind of (reception).”
Big congratulations to Max Holloway and Yancy Medeiros on their wins and many more to come!
