to celebrate restoring the park name to
“Kalanianaʻole Beach Park”
At the request of the Nanakuli-Maili Neighborhood Board, Councilmember Pine introduced Resolution 15-289, to rename Nanakuli Beach Park to Kalanianaʻole Beach Park.
The history behind this resolution has been ongoing for years. This isn’t the first time Leeward Coast residents have requested this change. In 1940, Nanakuli residents and homesteaders successfully petitioned for their park to be named after the late Prince Kuhio. Today, residents again feel that returning the name of Nanakuli Beach Park to Kalanianaole Beach Park would honor and commemorate Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole and his lifetime of compassionate and committed civic service to the people of Hawaii.
