Leeward Residents Delivered Traffic Relief at New Year Job Fair
(KAPOLEI) Leeward residents who fight traffic every day to get to work will have an opportunity to save between two and three hours in traffic this New Year. On January 8, the 2nd Annual Hire Leeward Job and Career Fair will take place at the University of Hawaii, West Oahu from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering hundreds of Leeward-based jobs to residents. Last year’s job fair offered 1,200 job openings. Over 3,000 job seekers attended the event.
The Fair has already attracted more than 50 local companies seeking to fill jobs at their Leeward locations. Participating employers include Central Pacific Bank, Queen’s Medical Center, the J.W. Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa, Rengo Packaging, the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center and Zippys. The jobs offered will include full-time and part-time positions and job training in professional, managerial, technical, clerical, transportation, logistics, public service, education, construction trades, medical, retail, service, and sales. (A full list of participating employers and career guidance organizations is available below.)
“There are over 53,000 jobs on the Leeward Coast alone which makes a job available to just about every Leeward adult who wants to work close to home,” said Councilmember Kymberly Marcos Pine, who founded the Hire Leeward Initiative. “Our goal is to make residents aware of these opportunities so they can improve their quality of life with their families and get out of the painful traffic that they spend so much time in.
“Companies attending the Fair recognize that employees who spend less time in traffic and more time with their families are more productive and bring more value to the company. We want to support these employers by connecting them to our quality candidates from the Leeward Coast.”
The 2nd Annual Hire Leeward Job and Career Fair will be held Wednesday, January 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Great Lawn of the University of Hawaii, West Oahu campus at 91-1001 Farrington Highway in Kapolei. Information about the Hire Leeward Job and Career Fair for employers and job seekers may be obtained at (808) 768-5001 or at www.hireleeward.com.
