KHON2 is getting results for Ewa Beach residents frustrated by potholes in a shopping center.

The potholes at the Ewa Beach Shopping Center are so deep, that many cars are forced to maneuver their way through the parking lot, or risk scraping their bumpers.

Honolulu City councilmember Kymberly Pine told us she’s heard a lot of complaints for residents, but few answers from the shopping center.

“The residents who have been using this shopping mall for many years have been complaining about the conditions of the roads,” Pine shared.

“The potholes are gigantic and they’re a real danger to little kids and of course everybody’s car gets damaged.” said State Rep. Bob McDermott (R-Ewa Beach, Iroquois Point).

KHON2 started making calls to the property owner after this was brought to our attention.

On Wednesday, KHON2 found out the property owner has approved work to fill the potholes.

In an e-mail to businesses, the work will start on Friday and should take about a week and a half to finish.

There was a prayer said and a maile lei untied. There was also a pass thrown by football Hall-of-Famer Jerry Rice on a former sugar cane field Thursday in what made for an unusual blessing of land in East Kapolei slated for a new shopping center.

The developer of the planned Ka Makana Ali’i mall, DeBartolo Development LLC, has close football-family ties with Rice. So the company made use of Rice being in town as alumni captain for Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl to give the blessing ceremony some extra flair.
