Honolulu City Councilmember Kymberly Marcos Pine attended the Grand Opening of The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The hospital officially opens for business on Tuesday, May 20, 2014.
Located on the former Hawaii Medical Center (HMC) West campus, Queen’s officially acquired HMC West from St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii on Dec. 14, 2012.
Services will include those essential to a community hospital such as emergency room, inpatient and outpatient surgery, imaging, cardiology and specialty clinics. The hospital will have 80 beds upon opening and will increase up to 135 beds as volume increases.
The Queen’s Medical Center was founded in 1859 by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV. The opening date of May 20 also coincides with the birthday of the King and Queen‟s beloved son, Prince Albert.
